Leno Bombs First Night on Prime Time

I like Leno, always have. So I was excited to know that he would be on prime time and I would have to stay up all night to see him.

I was anxious to see his new show. I knew he would use some of his old features but I expected a good show Leno Style.

But the first show stunk, Seinfeld and all.

However, it will not be a complete disaster because Leno is a showman. He will stay up late tonight trying to fix what went on tonight.

So, I'll give him a try again tomorrow.

Letterman is getting better but I don't want to stay up that late.

Leno was competing with a football double header. That is were I ended up after the first forty minutes.

Letterrep in Trouble

Letterrep.com is a needed service providing special letters to those who need them. The client asks for a letter and a writer submits a letter to the site. If the letter is chosen then or ever, the writer gets paid.

In the past the payments have been made quickly. It has been a source of some income to writers and it helps those who need the letters.

The letters are from students, those in trouble in some way, professionals, etc. You would be surprised who writes to receive a letter. Medical doctors ask for letters. One Year this Month at Wealthy Affiiate University

One year ago this month, I joined Wealthy Affiliate University. I haven't learned all that is available there, but I have learned the fundamentals of making money on the Internet.

I may not have moved as fast as some of the other students. I thought I knew more than I actually knew. So I made some mistakes that a newbie would not have made.

It is an old hang up for me. I would rather teach than learn at times. I spend a lot of time helping new members, some of which ended up helping me.

Kyle and Carson put up with me all year. Finally, Kyle told me to take a break from helping members to help myself. He said that then I would be much better at helping the new members.

So, I went back over what I had done, started correcting errors (which I am still doing) and started promoting more products by article writing.

I was doing PPC but Kyle told me to concentrate omn article writing for now. PPC does take some concentration.

Anyway, I was using PPC to sell my flagpoles but I'm selling them without PPC now. It is cheaper but not as fast.

Anyway, although the average stay at WAU is about 5 months, I'm going to be there for another year if I don't die in the process. I will be renewing my membership next week.

The membership actually costs me nothing. It pay for its self. But I do save $10 / month on the tuition by signing on for a full year.

What's Grandpa Jones Cooking Up?

Nothing but wind here in Idaho right now. The neighbor's cows are flying past my window. Well, no matter! The price of milk is lower than a earthworm's hole.

I'm still doing the cooking around here. My wife retired from cooking 15 years ago when I retired from doing whatever engineers do. She does whip me up some French toast once in a while. I don't like to eat before about 2-3:00 P.M. which she thinks is unhealthy. You know, the Good Breakfast theory. Snakes eat once a month! Look how loonnnnngggg they live.

Do you know anybody that likes liver and onions? Sometimes men do. The only way they can get it is to go out for it. They usually have to call the eatin' joint first to make sure they have it that day.

I think liver is the most vile stuff. In fact, because I've had heart surgery twice and have the aortic valve of a benevolent hog, it is on my forbidden food list.

When I was a boy, I learned to eat liver. It was the only way I could get enough meat. My mother's liver was like shoe leather because she knew you should try to cook it to death, anything to destroy it. But dad liked his liver and onions. My six siblings hated it. But I knew that if I could only learn to eat it, like it or not, I could get enough meat that one day. So, I just started eating it. Ugh!

My friend, Don, runs the local market. He puts outdated stuff in these carts and you can grab things at half price. There are always some good sauces in there good for marinating things. Sauces have expiration dates on them, but don't they just get better with age? You can't hurt noodles either and most of the other stuff in Don's discount carts.

Well, I've been cooking liver and onions with some of those marinates. Even though I'm not allowed liver and onions, I just have to have it about once a year. That is all there is to it!

My wife is normal so she absolutely hates liver. She always says, "I'm not going to eat that stuff!" Well, I cook away and put the liver in front of her and she gobbles it down saying, "That was delicious!"

Well, it isn't delicious. That is not a word for liver. The word is obnoxious.

Why does my wife love my liver and onions? Because I disguise it. The liver itself, still tastes like crap, but she doesn't notice that fact. Her taster is not as good as mine.

Well, got to be moseying along. Got to help the neighbor find his cows!

The Bear Facts

One of the pork barrel projects objected to by Senator McCain is the $4.8 million spent to determine the DNA of Grizzly Bears. The study showed that there are 765 bears in Northwestern Montana. If that was the extent of the study, each bear cost the U.S. tax payers about $6,274.50.

The investigators collected bear hair to determine the DNA. They did that carefully by avoiding the bears all together. In most scientific studies, the "Whose DNA is this?" would have been important. Evidently that would have been dangerous to determine.

The result gave a bear count which made people in Montana happy so that they can shoot the critters that attack range animals. The critters are not endangered.

So, what was the objective of this study other than to give employment to hundreds of bear-hair chasers?

My Experience With Wealthy Affiliate University

Today is my 2-Month anniversary with Wealthy Affiliate University. I had never heard of WAU until the day I joined. Someone on Yahoo send me an email. It sounded interesting so I looked at sight. After being years on the Internet making too little money, I took the WAU bait which was this:

1. The gurus won't really help you that much.

I knew that already. I have big investment in gurus with nothing to show for it.

2. You can make money with what they call Bum Marketing on the WAU campus. That means you spend no money. You write articles and blogs to sell products.

I have been an article writer for many years. The first thing I learned was that i was not using the resource boxes on my articles correctly to produce sales. I contacted Ezineartiticles.com and they changed my source boxes on 462 articles in one fail swoop.

3. They push PPC teaching you how to beat the system.

I've lost my shirt with PPC over the years. Now I have a half dozen campaigns and I'm getting great help from the search engine's service techs. I'm making money rather than losing it.

4. The best thing of all at WAU is the tutoring.

I was given constant attention for two months. I got an email about every day telling me what is was doing wrong and how to do it right. I'm now being weaned, but every email is answered withing 24 hours.

5. The Forums at WAU are fantastic.

I've learned tons of things from the forums. I love to read the success stories. I feel great when a WAU student says he has had his first $100.00, $500.00 or $1000.00 day.

I take part in the forums and I try to welcome new students and give them a hand.

6. Sharing Space

This is great. There you can read tutorials from the students and staff. I have written a half dozen tutorials myself. I learn, I teach, I profit.

7. Every month WAU spreads the wealth, giving $10,000.00 to the students. These little bonuses are given to each student in 10 gold coins worth a dime. We pass the gold coins around. I have about 40 at this writing having given 13 away. Thursday, I will get 10 more free coins to give away. It's fun to share. When you have an excess of $10.00 you get the money with your monthly affiliate commissions.

You can't imagine how great it is to deal with Carson and Kyle at WAU and the other members. There is so much to learn every day. I find myself spending a lot of time there just learning and chatting with other students.

8. The best of all is the 8-week study course. When I looked at the resources for marketing, etc, and the lesson content, and the tutorials I knew that I would be at WAU for the long haul. I joined for a full year just to make sure I did stay. That was the best thing I ever did, not to save the $10.00 a month from the $39.00 monthly tuition, but to makes sure that this time I would not fail.

I have finished the 8-week Course but I still go back and study the lessons and I repeat many of the tutorials to get my old ways out of my head so that I can make money.

I am at last making some money on the Internet. Carson said that I will be making a full time income next year at this time.

It's not so much that I need money now, but I'm retired on a fixed income. I know what inflation does over the years. I have to look to my future even though I am 76 years old. Right now, I'm hesitant to drive any long distance because of the cost of fuel.

Getting started in Internet marketing can be so disappointing.

Too many new Internet Wealth Seekers give up before they get started.

A common occurrence is that a new player in this Internet business game empty their bank accounts and max out their credit cards before they can get started. That is especially true of MLM programs that use Internet promotion.

Can you blame them for leaving?

It takes education to make money on the Internet. Folks know this and they spend tons of money on guru programs and ebooks, ending up with crappy, obsolete information, that leads them to the Internet Marketers Grave Yard.

Do you think the gurus are your friends?

Big Mistake!

They are not your enemy either. They hope that their programs will be successful. They need those testimonies coming in.

Have you notices that many of the testimonies sound like this: Wow, Steve! Boy, I sure am glad I signed up yesterday. This really looks good to me. I'll be ... blah, blah, blah. The point is that many of those who give testimonies do it too fast. They haven't really tried the program. They are just excited about it.

No guru would ever put up a sales letter on his site without testimonials. How do they find the testimonies before the program has been released? Well, one way is to call your fellow guru and and have him write you a testimonial. He can do that if you give him a peek at the program and put his link on your page.

The other way is to write the testimonials yourself.

I know this is done.

Sometimes, when I see it, I tell the guru something like this: Hey, George! Those Testimonies of yours look like you wrote them. Guru's usually don't answer these kind of comments. That would be a waste of time. They are Internet Marketers.

A Very Valuable Internet Wealth Site

Some Internet Marketer told me about Wealthy Affiliate University

For some reason I had never heard of the place (site). Well, the site owners did say that the site was not always like it is today.

Like all the universities I've attended, it is not free

It's a fee site. You have to pay a subscription fee each month. I took one look at the site and decided to make some savings by paying for one year in advance. I think it is very reasonably priced for what you get. I've been in other subscription sites but none have compared with this site in value.

The 8-Week Action Plan

I thought that I would zip right through their 8-week action plan. Most sites let you click on the next week and you can be done in a flash. Not with this University. You will have to wait one week for the next lesson. Tomorrow, I can access week two.

So What Could I Do to Get Educated While I'm Waiting for the Next Lesson?

WAU has a Learning Center. I started at the Junior Level I read the 18 lessons there and was amazed that I was actually learning something new.

They say at the site that you can make $10,000.00 a month at this level, you learn so many neat things.

I'm in the mist of the Intermediate Level but I'm going back to slow down. I don't want to gloss over important topics.

There is a Senior Level but I won't be at that level for a while.

What Else Is on the Site?

I suggest you take a look. Go down the left side panel and you will see everything needed to run an Internet Business. It's quite amazing. There are many fine site-building and marketing tools.

I'm glad I signed on for a full year. It will take me that long to really get going I'm so old and decrepit.

What Mail Software Do I Use?

That's a good question.

Email is the prime seller for those Internet Gurus. If they tell you they make 37,300.00 bucks in 24 hours, MAYBE they did. But how? Well they have a mailing list of customers as long as the Amazon River. They pop an ad and mail it to those customers. A certain fraction take the offer and they have made 27,300.00 bucks, MAYBE. Well, can you really trust what they say?

I use Post-Master Software.

When I lived in Arizona, I used Post-Master software. Recently, I was using AWeber.com but I switched back to Post-master. The reason is that I'm a small timer and I don't want to pay monthly fees. AWeber is great. So is Godaddy.com which my son uses. Post-master cost about 300 bucks but you pay no monthly fees.

Besides, I like to play with the Post-Master software. Years ago, when I first used it, I spent a lot of time with the techs (Roy, that is) getting things going. Now they have these wonderful tutorials that make it easy. Well, they are still there to help you.

What does the software do?

I thought you would never ask. Here is what it does:

1. It keeps track of my customers in categories of your choosing. I have a category that says Newsletter. When a person signs on for my newsletter, it puts them in that category. When some one opts-out, oh Heaven forbid, it removes their name from that category called Newsletter. When a person joins my newsletter, an auto responder send them an email expressing my joy.

2. It keeps track of my messages and keeps track of whom has received what. It sends these messages out on a schedule or as an instant message.

3. It does about everything there is to do automatically because of the Filters you can apply to income email.

Utah Mine Disasters Then and Now

I 've written an article on the Scofield Utah mine disaster in 1900. My grandmother's first husband was killed in the explosion and many more miners died when they tried to escape when they breathed deadly carbon monoxide. About 250 miners died.

A second article asks "How Do We Stack Up?" We say that America is the greatest country in the world. Is it? What do we need to do to change our image in the world?

Names of Current Utah Miners and the 1900 Utah Mine Explosion

a local newspaper is reporting the names of the six trapped miners. They are Manuel Sanchez, Brandon Phillips, Carlos Payan, Kerry Allred, Don Erickson and Luis Hernandez. The net also reports that three are Mexican citizens.

I have an interest because my grandmother's first husband was killed in the mine explosion that killed over 200 men in a Utah mine explosion in 1900. Don Imus used rapper and comic talk to describe a group of black basketball players. The words he used were defamatory and down right rude. Nobody would have noticed if he said those same words on the Daily Show or Comedy Central where filth abounds. Don Imus used the words to describe the young women of the Rutgers University Basketball team that played for the national championship.

Although the words were said in Don’s usual drown, they were picked up by the media and microphone-grabbing black activist. Indignation roared! Imus quickly apologized. After all, he was talking on cable where nothing is regulated and everything goes. On cable, vulgarity, jibes, and insults should not be taken seriously. In other words, he didn’t really mean what he said.

The media quickly picked up on the story. Although the young ladies, to their credit, were more tolerant to Imus than most blacks, the media furry cost Imus his job. Now he is out in the cold—where he probably belongs. He has a history of racial intolerance—as most everyone does— but his intolerance is a public record. Read my article at:

Testing First or New Novel Writer Software

I decided to see how the First Novel or New Novel Writer software performed. I've used such software programs before and I wanted to see how this inexpensive performed. Other than not having a search function that I could easily find, I found the software efficient for choosing genre, defining characters, places, and objects.

As for the research function I found that I could verify historical information easily online as I wrote a novelette. I particularly liked the detail that could be added to characters and places and objects as I went along. I liked bringing in a new character and then immediately use the software to define the character. I could always refer back to my character on the fly and see if his eyes were green or blurred.

The Chapter headings were great. You click on the chapter and it tells you what to put into it. It gives an example from Henry Potter. I simply read the list of details expected in the chapter and wrote the chapter.

It took one week of part time writing to produce the novelette of 17,000 words. I could flush it out in a few weeks to the word requirement for the genre I chose of 50-200,000 words.

I decided to write a detective western in the very late 1800s. It is called The Hunt for Lester Gorney a story of the hunt for a rapist murderer who preys on teenage girls but will kill anyone that get in his way.

I used Peter Ott as my protagonist who my readers (both of them) will recognize from my novels, Bull where he is not the protagonist and Revenge on the Mogollon Rim where he is the protagonist.

Dark Energy: The Hack Writer Reads Scientific American

I’ve always liked cosmology, probably because my father often talked about it. The February 2007 issue of Scientific American has an article by Christopher J. Conselice entitledThe Universe’s Invisible Hand. Christopher is an astronomer and Lecturer at the University of Nottingham. He was at Cal Tech until recently.

I enjoyed the article. Chris explained how galaxies stopped merging and settled into regular shapes, how star formation dropped off, and how dark energy became a major player in our universe. Black holes have become quiescent (but don’t get too close.) All of this occurred when the universe was about half the age it is now.

I often tell my wife my theories on the universe. She politely listens. She has heard me say many times that black holes have to be one of the oldest features of the universe and did not form later by large mass concentrations simply grabbing up ancient matter. Yes, they grabbed up matter but they were already there. I no doubt will be proven wrong on this because I’m not an astronomer or an cosmologist.

I’ve never understood dark energy or its origin. But like my black hole theory, I now “know” what dark energy is. Dark energy is the very essence of the universe. Everything in the universe including the fabric of space was created by dark energy. In other words, all of the energy available to create the matter of the universe was not used up in the Big Bang. My black hole theory was based on what we engineers call incomplete combustion. If there is anything perfect in this universe, other than you and me, I haven’t seen it. Now, Christopher didn't say that dark energy is the essence of the universe. I did. But what was the catalyst for the Big Bang? My article is at

The sideshow court hearings are for the birds. Give the body to her mother for burial. As to the paternity case, just check the DNA of those who claim they are the father of the infant. The conclusion should be that Don Juan Number 3, or whoever, is the father. Being the father simply means that person was one of many having sexual relations with Anna Nicole. It does not mean he warrants custody or inheritance. These issues need to be resolved in court after the funeral. For now, determine who the father is and let the mother have the body for burial. The fact that Nicole said some unkind things about her mother does not mean that her mother is not her mother. The unkind words may simply have been generated by drug addiction.

Hunting and Fishing: I Gear Up for Ice Fishing

I was a great fan of Marilyn Monroe. When I was fighting in Korea she was on the Armed Forces Radio Network every night and she came to visit us with Danny Kaye with his USO troop. She died of a drug overdose. Jayne was an interesting person, not unlike Anna Nicole, mostly a curiosity to me, a media freak of nature. Jayne died leaving several children. I was sorry to see Anna Nicole, a young mother too, die leaving her child an orphan.
